Clocks go back on 25 October: what to check on your phone and other devices
In the early hours of Sunday, 25 October, at 04:00 the clocks go back one hour, to 03:00. Most devices will switch on their own, but a few need a check.
1. Phones and computers usually switch automatically
iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android devices change the time on their own if automatic date and time is turned on. On an iPhone you can check this in Settings → General → Date & Time (Set Automatically).
2. Alarms and reminders adjust
An alarm set on your phone will still go off at the same clock time, so there’s no need to reset it.
3. What to check yourself
The clock in your car, microwave and oven, as well as older cameras and dashcams, often won’t change the time on their own. If a robot vacuum or another smart device runs on a schedule, check the time and time zone in its app.
4. In autumn, watch out for the cold
According to Apple, iPhone is designed to be used at temperatures between 0 and 35 °C. Below zero the battery drains faster, and an older battery can shut the phone down even when there’s still charge left. If this happens often, it’s worth having the battery checked.
Tips
- If your phone shows the wrong time after the change, turn automatic date and time off and on again, or restart the device.
- In winter, keep your phone in an inside pocket rather than an outer bag pocket.
